The Adaptive Cathedral of Speed is a concept that reimagines an unfinished concrete building in Monza as a building that can be used for various purposes and is consistent with the ideas of Wabi-Sabi and adaptive reuse. Building on ideas from Formula 1, the project features a capsule system based on a gondola lift, where wheel-shaped rooms are suspended from a flat rail and travel on a controlled track. The track is arranged in the shape of the iconic Monza race track which is a clear association of architecture with motorsport. During the F1 Grand Prix, these capsules serve as temporary hotel rooms and thus provide a unique stay experience. The site becomes an exhibition space for large-scale installations that celebrate movement, technology and imperfection for the rest of the year. The main idea of the project is not to change the existing unfinished concrete structure but to leave it unaltered and to make it a part of the aesthetic and functional concept. The project presents ideas of spatial configurations inspired by architecture of transportation and motion, as well as modularity and adaptability to generate a flexible but respectful intervention. This duality of speed and stillness, of movement and preservation is a challenge to conventional architectural thinking. This way of thinking the relationship between temporary structures and permanent structures challenges the conventional architecture and offers a concept of a fluid, flexible and constantly changing architectural environment for the race and for the urban context more generally.

Abstract
This way of thinking the relationship between temporary structures and permanent structures challenges the conventional architecture and offers a concept of a fluid, flexible and constantly changing architectural environment for the race and for the urban context more generally.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
