In recent years, procurement is facing a paradigm shift, moving the function from an operational activity to a strategic enabler of business value. Procurement is increasingly recognized as a field characterized by the creation and analysis of extensive datasets, making it highly suitable for Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovations. However, organizations face multiple challenges in adopting AI, including technological limitations, organizational resistance, and ethical concerns, compounded by the difficulty of assessing the tangible and intangible benefits of AI. This thesis aims to address these challenges by investigating how AI creates value in procurement and by identifying the enablers and obstacles that influence its adoption. A systematic review of the literature forms the foundation of this research, allowing the identification of gaps in existing frameworks and the formulation of a comprehensive theoretical model. The framework categorizes the key factors that influence AI adoption into three areas: technological readiness, organizational capabilities, and ethical-social considerations. Furthermore, the study explores the benefits of AI, including improved process efficiency, insight generation, and the multiple impacts on business operations. To complement this qualitative framework, the thesis examines existing models for AI value assessment, identifying discrepancies between theoretical expectations and practical outcomes. The findings emphasize the need for organizations to align their AI strategies with clear objectives, leveraging enablers such as advanced data management and crossfunctional collaboration while mitigating barriers such as skill gaps and cultural resistance. The research contributes to the academic discourse by offering a structured approach to understanding the value of AI in procurement. Practically, it provides organizations with actionable insights and guidelines to navigate the complexities of AI adoption, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and maximizing long-term benefits.

Abstract
Practically, it provides organizations with actionable insights and guidelines to navigate the complexities of AI adoption, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and maximizing long-term benefits.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
