This study was focused on analyzing an optimization strategy in order to increase the use of battery energy storage systems BESS coupled with a photovoltaic PV system at Commercial & Industrial scale. The optimization configuration was called strategic charge and consisted of charging the BESS from the surplus of the PV production and from the grid when the energy price is low. In order to assess if this strategy had a good performance it was compared with a standalone PV system and a regular PV system with BESS, evaluating yearly energy parameters like self-consumption, energy into and out of the battery, State of Charge SoC and economic parameters like revenue, cost of energy, profit and payback time. Two study cases with different PV system & BESS capacity and diverse consumption curves were studied simulating all three configurations PV, PV + BESS and PV + BESS with strategic charge and then compared to find similitudes and differences. The study was concentrated in Italy, and Italian energy prices for different years were used to analyze how the strategic charge optimization behaves in different scenarios. - The first case consisted of an agricultural company with a peak power of 88 kWp and 50 kWh BESS - The second case consisted of a livestock company with a peak power of 102,96 kWp and 100 kWh BESS. The input for the cases was handled in collaboration with Erreci S.r.l., a company specialized in photovoltaic systems designs at Commercial & Industrial scale.

Abstract
The input for the cases was handled in collaboration with Erreci S.r.l., a company specialized in photovoltaic systems designs at Commercial & Industrial scale.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
