Dal cavalcavia al parco : rigenerazione urbana ed inclusione sociale del quartiere Corvetto attraverso la costruzione off site

The Corvetto district, a suburb in the south-east of Milan, is a place that has long presented complex urban and social challenges, including the presence of an imposing overpass, which physically and symbolically separates the district from the rest of the city. The research addresses issues related to the composition of urban space, with particular attention to the social structure of Corvetto, which is home to a wide variety of residents, including a significant percentage of migrants. Social and ethnic diversity, if not adequately supported, can contribute to urban and social fragmentation, as in this case, where the overpass accentuates division and limits opportunities for interaction. The thesis proposes the rethinking of the infrastructure as an opportunity for urban regeneration and the construction of a new second reception centre for migrants. The theme of greenery also becomes one of the main elements of the project, transforming the flyover into a linear park, offering a network of public spaces capable of meeting the needs of a diverse community. The aim is to create a real system of connections, both physical and social. The common thread is off-site construction, which allows for rapid, reversible and innovative interventions, while ensuring sustainable resource management. The use of this technology also allows greater flexibility for potential future changes of use due to rapid changes in the way people live, work and interact with urban functions. In this context, off-site technology is an effective solution to address the specific social, urban and environmental needs of the neighbourhood. The contemporary challenge is to address and solve the multiple critical issues in the context through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates different thematic areas. Corvetto, characterised by significant opportunities but also by complex problems, represents the focus of this research.

Il quartiere di Corvetto, periferia del sud est milanese, è un luogo che da tempo presenta sfide urbanistiche e sociali complesse, tra cui la presenza di un imponente cavalcavia, che separa fisicamente e simbolicamente il quartiere dal resto della città. La ricerca affronta le tematiche legate alla composizione dello spazio urbano, con particolare attenzione alla struttura sociale di Corvetto, che ospita una grande varietà di residenti, tra cui una significativa percentuale di migranti. La diversità sociale ed etnica, se non adeguatamente supportata, può contribuire alla frammentazione urbana e sociale, come accade in questo caso, dove il cavalcavia accentua la divisione e limita le opportunità di interazione. La tesi propone il ripensamento dell’infrastruttura come un’opportunità di rigenerazione urbana e la costruzione di un nuovo centro di seconda accoglienza destinato a migranti. Anche il tema del verde diventa uno degli elementi principali del progetto, trasformando il cavalcavia in parco lineare, offrendo una rete di spazi pubblici in grado di rispondere alle esigenze di una comunità diversificata. L’obiettivo è quello di creare un vero e proprio sistema di connessioni, sia fisiche che sociali. Il filo conduttore è costituito dalle costruzioni off site, che permettono di realizzare interventi rapidi, reversibili e innovativi, assicurando al contempo una gestione sostenibile delle risorse. L’uso di questa tecnologia consente anche una maggiore flessibilità per potenziali futuri cambi di destinazione d’uso, a causa dei rapidi cambiamenti nel modo in cui le persone vivono, lavorano e interagiscono con le funzioni urbane. In questo contesto, la tecnologia off site rappresenta una soluzione efficace per rispondere alle specifiche esigenze sociali, urbanistiche e ambientali del quartiere. La sfida contemporanea consiste nell’affrontare e risolvere le molteplici criticità presenti nel contesto di riferimento attraverso un approccio interdisciplinare che integri diverse aree tematiche. Corvetto, caratterizzato da significative opportunità ma anche da problematiche complesse, rappresenta il fulcro di questa ricerca, ponendosi come oggetto di studio.
