In an era of unprecedented uncertainty, traditional predictive models often fall short to pursue desirable long-term outcomes. Therefore, we are witnessing a spur of future-making approaches that, rather than predict futures, aim to design it. This thesis investigates how individual future-self perception, the ability to understand, anticipate, and prepare for the future, influences and enhances future-making projects. Research indicates that individuals who perceive a strong continuity between their present and future selves exhibit enhanced decision-making capabilities, increased adaptability, and greater resilience. This heightened future self-continuity fosters a deeper understanding of how current actions impact long-term outcomes, thereby promoting proactive behavior and effective change management. The study employs mixed methodologies combining questionnaires, interviews, and future self-letters, with students in a course that focuses on understanding and managing change in future making projects. This study reveals that students' perceptions of their future selves significantly influence their current behaviors and decision-making processes with the context of future making projects. The findings indicate that a robust future self-continuity enables individuals to better align present actions with long-term future intentions, fostering proactive change. Moreover, these insights underscore the broader implications for societal resilience; by cultivating future-oriented mindsets, individuals contribute to the creation of a more desirable and adaptive future.

Abstract
Moreover, these insights underscore the broader implications for societal resilience; by cultivating future-oriented mindsets, individuals contribute to the creation of a more desirable and adaptive future.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
