WAVE: a silent nudge to shape everyday behavior

In recent years, the faucet industry has undergone a significant evolution, transforming the faucet into a key element in the global industrial design landscape. With increasing attention to issues such as environmental impact, sustainability, and water conservation, this market and designers are also striving to meet consumer needs by thinking about solutions that balance technology, aesthetics, and user experience. Often, when addressing the issue of water waste in the home, there is too much focus on the actions the user must take, and too little on the importance of designers in this context. In fact, designers can convey user actions through the product, promoting responsible actions, even unknowingly, in the user. After exploring the dynamics that determine daily habits, my role was to design a faucet that responds to the current market demand, directing the user toward a conscious use of natural resources, without sacrificing his or her daily experience with it, and creating a spontaneous habit embedded in the very act of use. WAVE, is a bathroom faucet, designed to be included in one of the collections of Rubinetterie Treemme, a company with which I collaborated at all stages of the project. Consistent with the brand's identity, WAVE with its unprecedented shapes, aims to reduce water waste by conveying the user to responsible actions, keeping their daily experience a priority. This project demonstrates how the designer is able to redefine the relationship between humans and natural resources through elegant, functional and sustainable solutions.

Negli ultimi anni, il settore della rubinetteria ha subito un’evoluzione significativa, trasformando il rubinetto in un elemento chiave nel panorama del design industriale globale. Con l’attenzione crescente verso temi come impatto ambientale, sostenibilità, risparmio idrico, anche questo mercato e i progettisti sono impegnati per soddisfare le esigenze dei consumatori, pensando a soluzioni in grado di bilanciare tecnologia, estetica e esperienza utente. Spesso, quando si affronta il tema dello spreco idrico in ambiente domestico, ci si concentra troppo sulle azioni che l’utente deve adottare, e troppo poco sull’importanza che hanno i progettisti in questo contesto. Infatti, i designer possono veicolare le azioni dell’utente tramite il prodotto, promuovendo azioni responsabili, anche inconsapevolmente, nell’utente. Dopo aver esplorato le dinamiche che determinano le abitudini quotidiane, il mio ruolo è stato quello di progettare un rubinetto che risponda all’attuale domanda di mercato, indirizzando l’utente verso un uso consapevole delle risorse naturali, senza sacrificare la sua esperienza quotidiana con esso, e creando un’abitudine spontanea integrata nel gesto stesso di utilizzo. WAVE, è un rubinetto da bagno, pensato per essere inserito in una delle collezioni di Rubinetterie Treemme, azienda con cui ho collaborato in tutte le fasi del progetto. Coerente con l’identità del brand, WAVE con le sue forme inedite, si propone di ridurre lo spreco idrico, veicolando l’utente verso azioni responsabili, mantenendo prioritaria la sua esperienza quotidiana. Questo progetto dimostra come il designer sia capace di ridefinire il rapporto tra uomo e risorse naturali attraverso soluzioni eleganti, funzionali e sostenibili.
