Industrial architecture has become seemingly detached from its human-centered origins. The persistent mechanization and standardization of industry have caused structures to neglect the balance between scale and contextual integration. Although humans may no longer be the primary inhabitants to many of them, some of these structures prevail within our environments as clamorous background noise we simply have grown accustomed to. Recognizing both excellent, as well as displeasing industrial precedents of the past decades, one architype remains forever true to its atavistic roots – the winery. This thesis project, enacting winery as the industrial paragon, explores the possibility of transforming the unpleasant sound into a sweet sonnet that introduces concordant notes derived from an orchestra of surrounding instruments. Like any musical composition, the thesis is structured as a lengthy iterative piece that consciously allows itself to make mistakes only to perfect each of its following verses. The project, located in the Colli Tortonesi addresses the contemporary shifts in wine production with the revival of the Timorasso grape at its core. Italian wineries, globally recognized for their excellence, offer a unique platform for architectural experimentation, where notions of innovation, cultural identity, economic performance, ecological sustainability and, perhaps most peculiarly, visitor experience form the foundation of their industry. Developed in collaboration with La Spinetta, the project aims to create a hybrid space that seamlessly combines industrial functionality with public engagement within a rich pastoral scenery of Montemarzino. As a result a dialogue between hospitality, production and context guides every iterative design decision: Whether it be the organization of spaces, tailoring of the visitor experience, materiality - each step reflects a commitment to tradition, innovation and sustainability. Though the thesis provides a thought-provoking framework for more informed industrial design, it also recognizes the complexities that come with every project, where financial and contextual scarcities affect the feasibility of such an iterative process.
L’architettura industriale sembra essersi progressivamente distaccata dalle sue origini antropocentriche.

Abstract
Though the thesis provides a thought-provoking framework for more informed industrial design, it also recognizes the complexities that come with every project, where financial and contextual scarcities affect the feasibility of such an iterative process.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
