This thesis investigates the architectural and cultural significance of incompleteness, focusing on the 18th-century Trotti Palace in Vimercate, Italy, as a central case study. The research explores how unfinished historical structures can be preserved and adapted for contemporary use while maintaining their historical integrity. By situating Trotti Palace within the broader context of Vimercate’s rich architectural heritage, the study examines the unique challenges and opportunities associated with the adaptive reuse of the palace. The originality of this argument lies in the focus on architectural incompleteness as a value rather than a flaw. The research proposes that such incompleteness can enhance the narrative and identity of historical buildings, offering new perspectives on preservation practices. My motivation for this research stems from a deep interest in how historical narratives can be preserved and reinterpreted through architecture, particularly in the face of modern urban development pressures.

Abstract
My motivation for this research stems from a deep interest in how historical narratives can be preserved and reinterpreted through architecture, particularly in the face of modern urban development pressures.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
