Van Gogh's ifluence on fashion design: creating a streetwear collection with generative AI

Fashion is not only about clothes; it is also a reflection of culture, history, and human creativity. After all, through clothes, it is possible to tell a story. Nowadays, with the development of technology, including AI, it has become a tool that is a co-creator in the creative process. This thesis explores the intersection of generative AI with art and fashion design by examining how AI can be used to reimagine the work of Vincent van Gogh, known worldwide for its bold strokes and emotional depth. The goal is to reinterpret the great artist’s work using generative AI tools. After all, these technologies greatly enhance the creative process and enable the reinterpretation of world-famous paintings by artists and turn them into innovative prints and clothing concepts. This research emphasises the importance of AI in the work of the fashion designer as a tool that significantly accelerates the work process and helps to find new ideas that might otherwise remain unrealised. By combining Van Gogh’s artistic creativity with new technologies, AI plays in this case the role of not just a tool but becomes a means by which the artist’s work is revived in a new interpretation and presented to a modern audience. The resulting collection of clothes shows how fashion can be a way to tell a story and preserve culture, where human creativity and technology work together to create the future of design.

La moda non riguarda solo i vestiti; è anche un riflesso della cultura, della storia e della creatività umana. Dopotutto, attraverso gli abiti è possibile raccontare una storia. Oggi, con lo sviluppo della tecnologia, compresa l'intelligenza artificiale, essa è diventata uno strumento che funge da co-creatore nel processo creativo. Questa tesi esplora l'intersezione tra l'intelligenza artificiale generativa, l'arte e il design della moda, esaminando come l'IA possa essere utilizzata per reimmaginare il lavoro di Vincent van Gogh, noto in tutto il mondo per i suoi tratti audaci e la sua profondità emotiva. L'obiettivo è reinterpretare l'opera del grande artista utilizzando strumenti di intelligenza artificiale generativa. Infatti, queste tecnologie migliorano notevolmente il processo creativo e consentono di reinterpretare dipinti famosi trasformandoli in stampe innovative e concetti di abbigliamento. Questa ricerca sottolinea l'importanza dell'IA nel lavoro del designer di moda come strumento che accelera significativamente il processo di creazione e aiuta a trovare nuove idee che altrimenti potrebbero rimanere irrealizzate.
