Recreational alley as green unity for sustainability and anti-fragility

. Ragusa, the capital of Sicilian Baroque, is a perfect location to host a ‘laboratory of ideas’ focused on architectural, urban, and environmental issues, due to the consistency of its architectural and monumental heritage, but also owing to the complexity of its urban structure, which nowadays requires an extensive regeneration process. The selected theme for the first step concerns the regeneration of the historic centre of Ragusa Superiore, the ‘new town’ built on a higher plateau after the earthquake which destroyed the old city in 1693. The historic centre , shaped on a compact gridiron plan, encompasses several late Baroque palaces. This thesis proposes a comprehensive solution to address the intertwined challenges of disconnectivity of different parts of Ragusa, Italy. In the short term, the project focuses on providing immediate connectivity in order to having an integrated city while implementing innovative management strategies. The “Recreational Alley as Green Unity for Sustainability and Anti-fragility” Ragusa unleashed a number of ideas, the effects of which can be considered specific and realistic methods of reviving the historic Ragusa.

Ragusa, capitale del barocco siciliano, è una location perfetta per ospitare un "laboratorio di idee" incentrato su questioni architettoniche, urbanistiche e ambientali, per la consistenza del suo patrimonio architettonico e monumentale, ma anche per la complessità della sua struttura urbana, che oggi richiede un ampio processo di rigenerazione. Il tema selezionato per la prima fase riguarda la rigenerazione del centro storico di Ragusa Superiore, la "città nuova" costruita su un altopiano più alto dopo il terremoto che distrusse la città vecchia nel 1693. Il centro storico, modellato su una pianta a griglia compatta, comprende diversi palazzi tardo barocchi. Questa tesi propone una soluzione completa per affrontare le sfide intrecciate della disconnessione di diverse parti di Ragusa, Italia. Nel breve termine, il progetto si concentra sulla fornitura di connettività immediata per avere una città integrata, implementando al contempo strategie di gestione innovative. Il "Recreational Alley as Green Unity for Sustainability and Anti-fragilità" Ragusa ha scatenato una serie di idee, i cui effetti possono essere considerati metodi specifici e realistici per far rivivere la Ragusa storica.
