The anthropocentric paradigm, which has permeated western thought for centuries, has led to the perception of nature as a resource to be exploited and dominated, rather than as a complex system of which human beings constitute an integral part. This perspective has contributed significantly to the acceleration of biodiversity decline at both global and local levels, including the Italian territory, recognized as one of the most significant hotspot for biological richness and endemism. Concurrently, there is a progressive detachment of young generations from nature, a phenomenon particularly evident in contexts characterised by high levels of urbanisation, which entails a reduction in basic naturalistic knowledge and skills and an impoverishment of the authentic relationship with the surrounding environment. In this scenario, where the protection of biodiversity represents an essential priority, it becomes imperative to promote a renewed ecological sensitivity and awareness. Therefore, particular attention must be paid to new generations, so that they acquire a full understanding of their role within ecosystems and develop a biocentric ethic, founded on the principles of cooperation and respect for the environment. These considerations highlight the necessity to analyze and, when necessary, profoundly reconsider the educational and communicative methodologies currently in use. With the following dissertation, motivated by the research question "How can Communication Design contribute to the safeguarding of biodiversity in the Italian territory through the development of environmental awareness tools dedicated to children?" the intention is to investigate how an integrated system of communicative artifacts can foster the development of both an emotional and cognitive connection with nature. The outcome of this investigation is represented by the project Tra i germogli, which integrates a personalized seeds kit, a series of picture books, and a digital platform. These components, operating in synergy, constitute an archivio vivo diffuso, a living archive distributed throughout the national territory, actively involving children in the cultivation of specific plant species and in the documentation of their growth process. The methodological approach adopted combines theoretical research and field research, enriched through consultation with sector experts. The prototyping phase of the system has allowed an evaluation of the effectiveness of the interaction between the different artifacts, demonstrating how the integration of narrative, direct experience, and shared documentation can effectively respond to the dual educational and environmental challenge. The project is configured as a model endowed with characteristics of replicability and scalability, with relevant potential for development through the expansion of cultivated plant species and collaboration with educational and scientific institutions. Tra i germogli highlights how Communication Design can assume a decisive role in promoting renewed ecological awareness in young generations, offering a concrete contribution to biodiversity conservation.

Abstract
Tra i germogli highlights how Communication Design can assume a decisive role in promoting renewed ecological awareness in young generations, offering a concrete contribution to biodiversity conservation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
