The Mincio and Po Rivers, two essential waterways in Northern Italy, have significantly shaped the region's natural, cultural, and economic development for centuries. The Mincio flows from Lake Garda through Mantua before merging with the Po, creating a complex hydrological system that supports wetlands, fertile plains, biodiversity, agriculture, and industry. This system has driven both economic growth and cultural innovation throughout history. These rivers historically served as vital trade and transport routes, connecting inland regions to the Adriatic coast. This connectivity facilitated the exchange of goods, ideas, and cultures, establishing Mantua as a key agricultural and commercial hub. The rivers' historical and ecological importance is reflected in locations such as Mincio Park and the Vallazza Nature Reserve. From Roman-era irrigation systems to modern ecological tourism, the Mincio and Po Rivers represent a fusion of history, innovation, and sustainability. The focus of this intervention is the confluence of the Mincio and Po Rivers in Governolo, a site of strategic historical significance. This research explores the region's historical development and its potential for future revitalization. Governolo, once a key location for defense, water management, and trade, played a crucial role in protecting Mantua and regulating the rivers’ hydraulic infrastructure. This project seeks to revitalize Governolo by promoting its cultural and historical heritage, attracting visitors, and renewing interest in its legacy.

Abstract
This project seeks to revitalize Governolo by promoting its cultural and historical heritage, attracting visitors, and renewing interest in its legacy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
