The core objective of this thesis research is to explore the challenges of the preservation wooden architecture in Belarus, particularly rural dwellings, and to propose innovative renovation and reconstruction alternatives that can compete with existing market solutions. First, it is important to define the essence of the heritage by examining various traditional handicraft techniques and architectural styles. The study will analyze the lifespan of traditional Belarusian architecture, highlighting historical disruptions and emphasizing the importance of preserving the remaining structures as a link to cultural identity. A deeper understanding of these architectural elements will help to determine their value in contemporary contexts. Currently, the preservation of wooden architecture and new construction practices suffer from a lack of awareness among both society and the government. Authentic structures are often being neglected or poorly maintained, while modern projects fail to consider the traditional architectural context. The absence of policies supporting the conservation of wooden heritage further exacerbates the issue, accelerating the disappearance of unique regional features. On the other hand, we have young activists who try to raise the problematic topic in public and practice careful restoration of their houses. This research does not aim to revive traditional regionalism but rather to reinterpret and adapt it—integrating traditional woodworking techniques with cutting-edge technologies in architecturaldesign. The design methodology considers the original context in all aspects, from wood-wood connections to the assembly sequence of load-bearing structures. The key principles of traditional wooden dwellings—such as flexibility, reusability, sustainability, and minimal material and spatial consumption—have been carefully analyzed and incorporated into the new design proposal, ensuring a balance between heritage and modern needs.

Abstract
The key principles of traditional wooden dwellings—such as flexibility, reusability, sustainability, and minimal material and spatial consumption—have been carefully analyzed and incorporated into the new design proposal, ensuring a balance between heritage and modern needs.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
