One of the main objectives of switching to a sustainable packaging design is to minimize environmental impact, enhance packaging efficiency, and promote recyclability without compromising compliance with regulatory standards. Adopting sustainable packaging design also demonstrates a company’s values regarding its environmental and social responsibilities, enhancing the company’s brand image and eventually increasing consumer rapport and trust. Thus, having a sustainable packaging design not only helps a company meet its environmental goals by minimizing packaging waste and reducing its ecological footprint but also helps to differentiate the company in the market and stand out against competitors. This thesis aims to provide companies with a methodological framework that they can use to rethink or redesign their packaging to achieve a more sustainable and recyclable design than their current packaging. The proposed methodology includes a comprehensive assessment framework that evaluates packaging options based on several criteria – the packaging’s protective characteristics, environmental footprint, and circularity. Through the framework, companies are encouraged to continuously improve their packaging, leveraging feedback and metrics towards sustainable packaging. Furthermore, this thesis includes the application of the methodology to redesign the packaging of dental prosthetic devices for Zirkonzahn Worldwide. It compares the new design against the old one across multiple criteria to evaluate whether switching to the new one makes sense from both environmental and economic standpoints. The thesis also reviews the practical challenges of adopting sustainable packaging designs. These challenges include the need for technological advancements, supply chain adjustments, and potential resistance from stakeholders because of higher costs. It also outlines the critical role of consumer perception and knowledge regarding sustainable packaging in driving the adoption of eco-friendly packaging in the market.

Abstract
It also outlines the critical role of consumer perception and knowledge regarding sustainable packaging in driving the adoption of eco-friendly packaging in the market.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
