The space membrane : permeative borders and instinctive paths: learning from biology

Through the expedient of the Membrane-Space, the project aims to create a hybrid system, where, through multisensory suggestions, the spaces of the racetrack and the surrounding environment can “permeate” one each other. The concept of barrier is modified as follows: from an element that circumscribes and separates, both physically and perceptively, a zone (architectural function), to the main actor of attraction, communication and confluence between two environments (biological function); all in relation to the complex sphere of people that live this reality, and without forgetting fundamental issues such as security. In this thesis, different ad hoc paths are thought to gradually introduce the users to places or activities, with the aim of creating multiple levels of narration. This interpenetration changes according to the various events and activities involved in the program of Imola’s Circuit. The project was born from the challenge to reconnect the social and spatial bonds between the Racetrack and the surrounding areas. And to strengthen the identity of the brand even outside its borders.

Attraverso l’espediente dello Spazio-Membrana, il progetto ha lo scopo di creare un sistema ibrido, dove, attraverso suggestioni multisensoriali, gli spazi del circuito e l’ambiente circostante possano “permeare” l’uno nell’altro. Viene così modificato il concetto di barriera: da elemento che circoscrive e separa, sia fisicamente che percettivamente, una zona (funzione architettonica), a attore principale di attrazione, di comunicazione e di confluenza tra due ambienti (funzione biologica); il tutto in relazione alla complessa sfera di persone che vivono questa realtà, e senza dimenticare tematiche fondamentali quali quello della sicurezza. In questa tesi vengono ideati diversi percorsi ad hoc che introducono gradualmente gli utenti ai luoghi o alle attività, con lo scopo di creare più livelli di narrazione. Questa compenetrazione cambia a seconda dei vari eventi e attività coinvolti nel programma del Circuito di Imola. Il progetto nasce dalla sfida di riallacciare i legami sociali e spaziali tra l’Autodromo con le aree circostanti. E di rafforzare l’identità del brand anche al di fuori dei suoi confini.
