This thesis examines the Caddebostan and Maltepe embankment areas on the Asian side of Istanbul. Located on the same coastline, these two areas show significant differences in scale, spatial quality, and urban integration. Although the Maltepe shore is a large-scale embankment area with a variety of activity areas, the Caddebostan shore, although smaller, draws attention to its simple design and intensive use. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between body, space, and perception through the user experiences. Human beings are present in space, not only with their bodies but also with their whole being. The user’s perception of space is shaped by factors such as scale, senses, and memory. These factors also determine how a user transforms the space. In other words, the user is affected by space, and space is affected by the user. This study is based on both qualitative and quantitative data, which were collected through literature review, spatial analysis, and experiental observations. How users interact with spaces, how spatial qualities affect their emotions and perceptions. How the scale and design of both spaces shape the user experience were analyzed. Body-space interaction is at the center of this study, and the aspects of spatial design that facilitate or hinder users’ connections with the environment are discussed. The findings aim to provide an in-depth understanding of the effects of coastal land reclamation areas on urban life and user experience. This study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between body and space by providing a multilayered perspective on urban and coastal design.

Abstract
This study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between body and space by providing a multilayered perspective on urban and coastal design.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
