In Pierre Jeanneret, the concept of technique appears with the wealthiest and most diverse meanings. By studying his professional trajectory, we could conclude a journey in the study of technique, a polyhedral circuit in which he integrated disparate trends and aspirations of what architecture should be. Likewise, his extensive work - yet to be discovered since it has been little studied - allows us to observe the different declinations that can be made to the word technique, from the working methods, creating interrelationships between ideas and images, to the construction itself, with the various construction systems, materials or details that he explored throughout his project and professional career. The thesis I present here offers an interpretation of Pierre Jeanneret's technical thought in his housing opera. To do so, it resorts to an argumentative construction, to an analytical and critical scaffolding: four series of projects enunciated by four themes/constructive systems that allow us to dissect his thoughts. These themes/constructive systems are: "Construction à sec": Industrialization and standardization, Prefabrication: The technique of assembly, Hybrid systems: between traditional and industrial construction, and Masonry construction: local and climate techniques. Through them, it is possible to discover the complex and fortunate conjunction of romantic thought, according to which architecture resides in eternal principles and immutable laws, with the manifestation of a modern form of production that is heir to the positivism and pragmatism of the 19th century, which demanded the satisfaction of practical needs. Technology had to recognize a priori principles and, in turn, adhere to science as the guarantor of progress. I present this series of themes, projects, and images in the hope that the accumulation of examples, design instruments, and their various instances in which technique has been an essential part of the conception of architecture will shed light on the ideas presented and reveal Pierre Jeanneret's technical eye, providing new generations with a way of looking at technique in order to design.

Abstract
I present this series of themes, projects, and images in the hope that the accumulation of examples, design instruments, and their various instances in which technique has been an essential part of the conception of architecture will shed light on the ideas presented and reveal Pierre Jeanneret's technical eye, providing new generations with a way of looking at technique in order to design.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
