Terre Menoiche : una cantina Librandi nel Cirotano

The unique orography of the land of Cirò, in eastern Calabria, nestled between the blue of the Ionian Sea and the ridges of the Aspromonte Mountains, whispers the story of one of the most illustrious wine regions in southern Italy. From this still telluric yet delicate essence, lies one of the first DOC areas recognized on the Italian peninsula, an authentic and significant expression of the winegrowing identity of its native land: the Cirotano. A rolling sea of golden dunes and Pliocene plains, gently descending into the embrace of the Mediterranean. These are chambers filled with echoes of the past; a Land of Wine, a mother substance since the days of Magna Graecia. The project of a winery for Librandi aspires to narrate the sacred experience of winemaking. In intercepting the true soul and tradition of the lands of Cirò, the project aims to unearth the reality of the territory, burning with the desire to reveal what it can represent for this land: a monument to wine. A journey of knowledge, truth, and rediscovery of this ancestral art; a functional passage akin to the gestation of Bacchus, from the womb of Semele to the thigh of Jupiter, from the earth of the vine to the stone of the building that, in the end, will return an architectural mark to the landscape from which it all began. With a few more answers or, perhaps, with new questions.

Enotria, tellus madre ove la vite s’erge, ove il vino incanta. L’orografia propria della terra del Cirò, a est della Calabria, sospinta tra il blu del mar Ionio e i rilievi dell’Aspromonte, sussurra la storia di una delle più illustri regioni vinicole del Meridione italiano. Dall’essenza soave ancora tellurica, si cela una delle prime aree DOC riconosciute nella penisola italica, la più autentica e importante espressione nella vitivinicoltura del territorio d’origine, il Cirotano: un ondulato mare di dune gialle e pianure plioceniche, digradanti nell’abbraccio del Mediterraneo. Stanze, queste, cariche degli echi del passato; Terra del Vino, madre materia sin dai giorni della Magna Grecia. Custodi dei segreti sul culto dell’arte dionisiaca, nell’areale di Cirò le cantine s’ergono come sacri caveau, preservano la parte più pura del loro legame con la terra e la pietra che le ha costruite; la sostanza del tutto. Tale compendio di storia, tradizioni e cultura del paesaggio vinicolo calabrese, diviene occasione a disporre le premesse per riflessioni altre, per un onirico viaggio fra le terre menòiche. Il progetto di una vinicola cantina per Librandi aspira a narrare l’esperienza sacra del fare vino; non vuol essere solo progettare un luogo della produzione, un’ultima propaggine; vuol essere un’ode ai millenni di cultura vinicola che permeano questa terra, di escavazione della terra, lavoro dell’uomo su un contesto che delle tracce agricole e di pietre ha fatto vere archeologie. Paesaggio, mito, memoria. Nell’intercettare l’anima vera e la tradizione delle terre del Cirò, il progetto intende riportare alla luce la realtà del territorio, ardente di rilevarsi per ciò che può rappresentare per questa terra: un monumento al vino. Un percorso di conoscenza, di verità e ri-scoperte di quest’arte atavica; un transito funzionale come per la gestazione di Bacco, dal grembo di Semele alla gamba di Giove, della terra della vite alla pietra dell’edificio che, sul finire, restituirà un segno architettonico nel paesaggio da cui tutto avrà inizio.
