This thesis analyzes the resilience of the road transportation network in Piacenza assessing the impact on traffic circulation of disruptions on critical links, falling into two categories: A) links with high betweenness centrality; B) links with high traffic volumes. The research objective is to investigate which type of link disruption has the greater impact on the road network. A system-based simulation approach is applied to quantify the effect of link disruptions. The methodology involves identifying key links in the road network, simulating their interruption, and calculating the resulting change in network performance. The vehicles-hour on the networks is adopted as the Key Performance Indicator (KPI). The results show that while the removal of structurally central links has a limited impact, removing high-traffic links causes a substantial increase in vehicles-hour indicating severe functional disruption. The study highlights the importance of developing simulation models for vulnerability assessment that account for the interaction between supply and demand in the case of road network disruptions.

Abstract
The study highlights the importance of developing simulation models for vulnerability assessment that account for the interaction between supply and demand in the case of road network disruptions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
