Examining the role of project management techniques within design projects, this study is a story about the paradox of innovation. While literature widely supports the use of structured tools – such as Gantt charts, cost estimation, and Agile methods – to streamline product development, enhance efficiency, and manage complexity, it also reveals the ambiguous nature of the design practice. In fact, even though these methods are designed to address the dynamic and unstable nature of the design discipline – balancing creativity, technical constraints, and resource management – the observation part of this study will show that in certain contexts, innovation emerges from blurriness and looser structures. This research will highlight how structured methods can help visualizing timelines, overseeing budgets, and facilitate adaptability in design processes. Yet, in specific phases of a design project, the absence of rigid frameworks fosters the kind of creative freedom necessary for true innovation. Through an exploration of unstructured, intuitive workflows – where progress is tracked not through charts but through evolving iterations and loosely documented insights – this study will argue that the most groundbreaking solutions emerge outside of defined targets, just beyond their outer frame, in the blurred margins where unpredictability meets invention.

Abstract
Through an exploration of unstructured, intuitive workflows – where progress is tracked not through charts but through evolving iterations and loosely documented insights – this study will argue that the most groundbreaking solutions emerge outside of defined targets, just beyond their outer frame, in the blurred margins where unpredictability meets invention.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
