In recent years, the HVAC sector has experienced a fast evolution fueled by the necessity to save energy, reduce greenhouse gases emissions, and achieve high indoor comfort standard. The adoption of new technologies has played a key role in answer to these requirements, especially in energy demanding areas like the hospitality industry, where the contribution of air conditioning to energy consumption and environmental footprint is considerable. Energy efficiency, digitalization of systems, and intelligent management are now pillars of sustainable design. In this thesis, a techno-economic study of a real application of HVAC system retrofitting in a hospitality building is presented. The original system design was composed by a chiller for cooling and thermal power plant for heating than it has been substituted in a first stage by a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system combined with Samsung’s WindFree™ technology to ensure comfort without air drafts and with strong seasonal efficiency. In a second stage the Biot platform was implemented showing a digital management system that supports continuous monitoring, predictive control, and optimization of performance. The analysis was structured as a comparative study between the conditions before and after the retrofit using simulations, economic analysis, and environmental impact studies. The results highlight that the implementation of the VRF system using WindFree technology reduced the energy consumption and increase perceived comfort. The integration of the Biot system provides added advantages in intelligent control and system optimization. The paper concludes by identifying how the simultaneous use of these technologies offers a cost-effective and a perfect solution to improve energy efficiency and sustainability across the hospitality industry.

Abstract
The paper concludes by identifying how the simultaneous use of these technologies offers a cost-effective and a perfect solution to improve energy efficiency and sustainability across the hospitality industry.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
