This thesis aims to explore the educational and recreational potential of tactile books, fundamental tools for the involvement of children with visual impairments in the process of learning and discovering the world. In addition to stimulating the imagination and developing cognitive skills, tactile books represent an effective means of promoting autonomy and inclusion, allowing children to explore realities that are often precluded due to visual barriers. Starting from an analysis of the scientific mechanisms of touch and the creation of mental images, this research investigates the design methodologies of tactile books, highlighting the most effective techniques and materials for transmitting information through touch. To support this theoretical analysis, a field research activity was carried out through a visit to an association and a specialized bookshop, to closely observe real examples and understand the purposes, contents and technical solutions of the different accessible editorial products. Wanting to delve into a playful but also educational scenario, the research was oriented towards the museum context, focusing on the development of a tactile and multisensory guide. The study was directed at the Rai Radio and Television Museum and was carried out through detailed photographic and video documentation, which allowed us to analyze the layout and contents of the exhibition. To fully understand the cultural mission of the museum and the values on which it is based, I also asked to be accompanied on a guided tour, during which I had the opportunity to discuss with the director Alberto Allegranza and his collaborators. This dialogue allowed us to build an active collaboration, which led to the shared development of some parts of the project. The Museum therefore proved to be the ideal context for creating an accessible guide designed specifically for children with visual impairments. This is how Museo in Onda was born. The aim is to overcome physical and perceptive barriers, transforming the museum experience into an exploratory and engaging adventure, capable of stimulating curiosity and understanding of the surrounding world. The final objective is to propose an innovative system of museum fruition, which integrates tactile supports, audio content, interactive elements and new technologies, creating accessible and personalized paths for each young visitor. This approach aims to promote a culture of accessibility and to transform the museum into a truly inclusive space, where every child can feel like a protagonist of the experience.
Nasce così Museo in Onda.
