This research addresses the issue of the graduation celebration as a rite of passage in today's context, investigating its symbolic value, social function and the design opportunities it offers. Starting from the observation of the current practices at Polimi, the analysis highlighted critical issues related to environmental sustainability, logistical management and the gradual loss of meaning of the celebration. Through the observation of classical theories on ritual and more recent reflections on the crisis of this phenomenon, graduation is framed both as a formal act and as a cultural device capable of generating social cohesion and identity recognition. At the same time, the field investigation confirmed the need to intervene not only on the sustainability of the process, but also on the symbolic and relational structure, thanks to the involvement of different stakeholders in order to gather a plurality of perspectives. In this perspective, the SPAZIO-UNICO project proposes a ritual design model based on the active participation of the academic community. The process focuses on the creation of a shared sense of belonging, capable of empowering people towards the university environment. Here, community building becomes an essential precondition for ritual moments to acquire full meaning in the relationship with the social context that hosts and recognises it. Starting from these observations, a new event format articulated in several stages was developed. It is configured as capable of enhancing the passage of status through renewed symbolic devices, moments of collective reflection and shared practices. Thanks to the experimentation phase with users, it was possible to test the proposed solutions and to validate their effectiveness in terms of involvement, cohesion and empowerment of participants. Taken as a whole, the path returns a critical and design reflection on the sustainability of the graduation rite in search of conscious processes based on shared respect.

Abstract
Taken as a whole, the path returns a critical and design reflection on the sustainability of the graduation rite in search of conscious processes based on shared respect.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
