Urban plug-ins: exploring two-way opportunities for urban public space renewal in Milan Darsena area

By inserting four types of spatial and landscape structures in four sites within the Darsena area of Milan, this project explores two-way opportunities for urban public space renewal through human-environment interaction. Each type of structure responds to the physical, social and historical context of the site and adopts design strategies such as insertion, connection, programming and rewilding to activate new functions and reinterpret the spatial roles and urban identities of the four sites. Through this series of interventions, the project stimulates new ways of using and experiencing the city, leading the public to experience and connect with urban space in a more participatory and reflective way. Considering design as a tool rather than a container, this research aims to respond to and stimulate the needs of the users, emphasizing the interaction between spatial shaping and human behavior, and constructing multiple possibilities for contemporary urban life.

Inserendo quattro tipi di strutture spaziali e paesaggistiche in quattro siti della Darsena di Milano, questo progetto esplora le opportunità bidirezionali di rinnovamento dello spazio pubblico urbano attraverso l'interazione uomo-ambiente. Ogni tipo di struttura risponde al contesto fisico, sociale e storico del sito e adotta strategie di progettazione come l'inserimento, la connessione, la programmazione e il rewilding per attivare nuove funzioni e reinterpretare i ruoli spaziali e le identità urbane dei quattro siti. Attraverso questa serie di interventi, il progetto stimola nuovi modi di usare e vivere la città, portando il pubblico a sperimentare e connettersi con lo spazio urbano in modo più partecipativo e riflessivo. Considerando il design come uno strumento piuttosto che un contenitore, questa ricerca mira a rispondere e a stimolare le esigenze degli utenti, enfatizzando l'interazione tra la configurazione dello spazio e il comportamento umano e costruendo molteplici possibilità per la vita urbana contemporanea.
