The northern area of Garda Lake has served for centuries as a key point of reference for the whole of Europe: historically regarded as the gateway to Italy, it has long been appreciated as an extraordinary landscape due to its temperate climate, the specialized cultivation of grapevines and olive trees, the practice of water sports supported by the winds channeled through the Benaco valley, its remarkable panoramic views, and a form of tourism centred on green and wellness-oriented experiences. Today, however, the Garda Trentino region is increasingly subject to speculative dynamics and a model of tourism-driven land consumption that go beyond the principles of cultural and environmental enhancement. Aggressive urban development, unregulated settlement expansion, coastal assault, and the construction of oversized infrastructure threaten to undermine the deep-rooted harmony between human presence and the natural environment that has historically defined and distinguished this territory. The abandonment of certain portions of the landscape also contributes to the loss of a historical, architectural, and cultural heritage that could otherwise serve as both a source and an example of new ways of interpreting the landscape The restoration of Forte Tombio represents a significant opportunity to demonstrate the possibility of engaging with the landscape through a renewed and more sensitive approach: by integrating slow mobility networks that are coherent with and complementary to those already in place, the project aims to reactivate this unique fortified complex, the only one in the area currently abandoned, and to foster greater public awareness of the military history of the First World War and of the historical processes that shaped the exceptional landscape of Lake Garda. The summit of the mountain thus becomes a place for understanding the almost lost historical memory, a terrace on the landscape and a military park, which enhances and reinterprets the military identity history of the Trentino Benaco.

Abstract
The summit of the mountain thus becomes a place for understanding the almost lost historical memory, a terrace on the landscape and a military park, which enhances and reinterprets the military identity history of the Trentino Benaco.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
