The thesis proposes a paradigm in which technology amplifies the designer’s abilities, while keeping the human experience, the quality of client relationships, and design competence at the core of the process.

Abstract
In recent years, Artificial Intelligence has become an accessible consumer good, spreading widely across sectors, including creative professions, companies, and SMEs. The ease of use of advanced generative systems has sparked growing curiosity, transforming design practices. Text and image generators facilitate experimentation and open up new possibilities for dialogue. However, by 2025 the proliferation of tools makes it increasingly difficult to navigate the landscape, understand the real capabilities of available technologies, and identify those truly suited to specific needs. This thesis presents a critical investigation into the use of generative AI applied to the real case of Studio m*ama, a Milan-based micro-enterprise in flower design founded by the author together with Mariachiara Manelli. The first level of analysis explores the AI market and its potential applications, followed by interviews with designers working in small creative businesses to examine the current state of AI integration in design processes. Based on this, a framework that integrates selected generative tools within a real-world scenario is tested, arranging the setup of an exhibition pop-up targeting a clientele of micro-brands. The focus is placed on the initial phases of visual co-design, which are often slowed down by repeated sketch iterations and miscommunication. The use of image generators and sketch-to-render tools allows for real-time development of floral concepts, enhancing communication with clients. The results show that, when guided by design awareness, AI can accelerate decision-making, enrich dialogue, and free up space for bolder solutions. The thesis proposes a paradigm in which technology amplifies the designer’s abilities, while keeping the human experience, the quality of client relationships, and design competence at the core of the process.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
