Abstract
In a contemporary world full of urgencies and social issues where urban planners have struggled to define and manage successfully territories that have never been planned from the outset. This has forced me to ask myself, how can territories with unplanned growth be channeled to become sustainable, habitable, and ideal for healthy urban-social behavior in the short future? The case of the city of Nueva Loja in the Ecuadorian Amazonian region falls into the latter description. An unplanned territory with high social inequalities, where most of the inhabitants perceive the land as an endless extraction point of resources and goods, yet they are not able to call this area home. The master plan for the Private Natural Reserve Pauquir is expected to be developed in the next few years. It aims to catalyze a significant social change within the constantly shifting population of the city by using a series of carefully analyzed and overlapped urban theories from the perspective of conservationism. It is hoped to build up soon a strong community around a close to 0% impact system that withholds a reciprocal social balancing mechanism, taking into consideration the community help and the potential of the project to give back fundamental resources. All are drawn around the statement of building a common protected area that shapes the city and is protected by the city. This thesis project is looking to lay out a guideline for the theoretical analysis of what urbanism practices should be taking into consideration in developing territories, and at the same time, provides certain examples of practices to include vulnerable communities in establishing a protected urban forest. The purpose of the steps explained in the project is to showcase a real attempt at the power that architecture and planning have over social groups and cities that have not yet had the luxury of being planned.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
