This thesis evaluates XSEED GPS tracking technology for football player monitoring in collaboration with SOCCERMENT. Using systematic three-phase methodology, the study assessed tracking accuracy under controlled conditions and validated real-world applicability through Montreal match analysis using XSEED v1.5. Controlled testing compared XSEED v1, v1.5, and GPEXE Pro benchmark. GPEXE Pro achieved superior accuracy (RMSE: 1.24m), while XSEED v1.5 demonstrated 64% improvement over its predecessor (RMSE: 1.91m vs. 2.41m). Dynamic testing showed XSEED v1.5 substantially improved directional change handling, reducing RMSE from 5.29m to 3.56m. Montreal match validation confirmed laboratory findings under competitive conditions, with XSEED v1.5 maintaining 98.3% data capture rate throughout 90 minutes. Advanced tactical metrics including Stretch Index effectively quantified team dispersion (10.8m-31.4m range), while inter-line distance measurements validated coaching concepts with defense-midfield gaps varying 11.4-14.1m across match phases. Findings demonstrate GPS tracking technology's maturity for professional tactical analysis, with XSEED v1.5 offering viable alternative to premium systems. The research establishes frameworks for automated formation detection and tactical phase identification, bridging subjective coaching observations with data-driven insights. This study provides quantitative foundations for tactical concepts while democratizing access to sophisticated analytical tools, supporting football analytics evolution toward more accessible and actionable performance insights.
Questa tesi valuta la tecnologia di tracciamento GPS XSEED per il monitoraggio dei giocatori di calcio in collaborazione con SOCCERMENT. Utilizzando una metodologia sistematica in tre fasi, lo studio ha valutato l'accuratezza del tracciamento in condizioni controllate e ha validato l'applicabilità reale attraverso l'analisi della partita di Montreal usando XSEED v1.5. I risultati dimostrano la maturità della tecnologia GPS per l'analisi tattica professionale, con XSEED v1.5 che offre alternativa valida ai sistemi premium. La ricerca stabilisce framework per riconoscimento automatico formazioni e identificazione fasi tattiche, collegando osservazioni soggettive coaching con intuizioni basate sui dati.
