The study of modern architecture and its spatial dynamics finds one of its strongest points of expression in the small town of Ronchamp, in the department of Haute-Saône, France, known especially for the work of the Cathedral Notre-Dame du Haut, designed by Le Corbusier. The Bourlémont hill, on which this famous building stands, is a place of strong symbolism and significance, where nature and architecture come together in a complex and fascinating relationship. The presence of other architecture designed by Le Corbusier, as well as several more recent architectural interventions in the same area, help define a cultural and landscape context of great significance, both historically and in terms of design. This thesis sets out to examine the Bourlémont Hill and its architecture, with a focus on the Cathedral of Notre-Dame du Haut, as the epicenter of a pathway that intertwines the design of a new art gallery nearby. The design of this new exhibition space takes the form of a projectual and cultural challenge, aimed at respecting and at the same time dialoguing with Le Corbusier's iconic architectural complex, without betraying its essence. The topographical, historical and architectural context of the hill, as well as the specific needs and benefits of the new art gallery, will be examined, finding innovative solutions that can enrich the visitor experience and offer new ways of relating art and architecture. In this context, the design of an art gallery not only as a container of works but as a place of visual and sensory experience takes on relevance in outlining a possible future for the site. The new structure will have to respond to functional and cultural needs while fitting into a landscape of extraordinary beauty and importance, rich in references to the architectural tradition of Modernism and the reflections on light, material and space that characterize Le Corbusier's work.
