The progressive depopulation of inland and mountain centres is a widespread phenomenon on a national scale, which has affected the central Apennines in particular. The profound socio-economic changes of the twentieth century have affected daily life and the organisation of space, leaving clear signs in demographic, economic and above all architectural terms. Living is thus reinterpreted as a cultural and design act, capable of enhancing the existing built environment, rethinking public space, improving accessibility and activating new economic and training resources. An approach that aims to counter urban centralisation, offering new perspectives of life in fragile territories but rich in opportunities.

Abstract
The progressive depopulation of inland and mountain centres is a widespread phenomenon on a national scale, which has affected the central Apennines in particular. Although this dynamic involves many areas of the country, the research focuses on the mountain centres in the province of L'Aquila, an emblematic context for understanding the transformations of living and the consequences of abandonment in inland areas. The profound socio-economic changes of the twentieth century have affected daily life and the organisation of space, leaving clear signs in demographic, economic and above all architectural terms. Many historic centres, now emptied, retain a building heritage of great value but lacking function. Through a morphological and typological analysis of eight representative municipalities, identified according to the phenomena of "slow-down" and "duplication" the work proposes design scenarios for a conscious and sustainable re-inhabitation. Living is thus reinterpreted as a cultural and design act, capable of enhancing the existing built environment, rethinking public space, improving accessibility and activating new economic and training resources. An approach that aims to counter urban centralisation, offering new perspectives of life in fragile territories but rich in opportunities.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
