Born with the aim to create an appropriate place for the art of music, “CÉMA - Centre d’Écoute pour la Musique d’avant-garde” is the headquarter of the concert room for avantgarde music; it is one of a kind space and it is adequate for the modern exhibition of music based on Luigi Nono’s theories. The project also provides for secondary complementary rooms in which are shown artworks related to the themes of stars, dance and music. The building offers places for consultation of books and documents, for restoration and lavatories. The main themes of music and stars recall the Cathedral of Notre-Dame du Haut, next to the project’s site, and they look back on to what its architect Le Corbusier had expressed back to the middle of the last century. Le Corbusier conveyed the intention to complete the chef d’oeuvre with music related representations since “the music is one of the architectural components created for Ronchamp”. Ahead of its time, the Cathedral presents in its interiors light games and reminders to the constellation to which the church is consecrated, making it a dignified place for those that arrive there. The project’s site is the hill of Bourlemont, next to Ronchamp city, in the region of Franca Contea and part of the Natural Regional Park of Ballons des Vosges. The place is relevant due to its religious, mineral and cultural heritage. On site there is also the Monastery by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, whose methodology has been fundamental to reach the original goals of the project. At last, the choice to design the building almost entirely underground was made as a sign of respect towards the site’s context, aiming to reach a well studied integration of the edifice without excessively affecting the view. Indeed the real importance is the sign and the “sound” that the building leaves in those who enter in its rooms and appreciate the musicality left in their souls.

Abstract
Indeed the real importance is the sign and the “sound” that the building leaves in those who enter in its rooms and appreciate the musicality left in their souls.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
