The thesis focuses on the topic of the management of Cultural Heritage (CH) through the emerging web platforms for 3D data visualization and interaction. The Reality Capture sector is experiencing a significant evolution in terms of technologies and instruments, producing significant amount of digital data. A promising perspective for using and sharing digitized models, and in particular point clouds, is represented by web platforms, with various available solutions as commercial, open source and research level ones. The thesis defines the current state of the art of the sector, identifying the main development lines and the most promising solutions. It then analyses some research case studies that are relevant for the topic of data management through the web, presenting different solution in terms of analysed and chosen web platform. The final part of the thesis focuses on developing a method for building a web platform focused on the management of CH assets, applying the Master Data Management framework and tools to the conservation sector. The final outcome is the development and test of a web platform specifically designed for Milan Cathedral to support the programmed maintenance of the marble blocks. The thesis describes the available data, the database structures implemented on the chosen MDM tool (Microsoft Master Data Services) and the workflow designed for the maintenance operations.
