The thesis explores the role of Material Libraries as cultural and design infrastructures, moving beyond their traditional function as technical repositories. The research originates from the crisis of contemporary design, characterized by consumerism and aesthetic superficiality, and retraces its philosophical and political roots in order to understand how materials may serve as catalysts for new perspectives. Within this framework, the Material Library is reconsidered as a critical device capable of fostering eco-political literacy, interdisciplinarity, and the democratization of knowledge. Through a comparative analysis of international case studies, the study highlights both the limitations and the potential of different exhibition, informational, and relational configurations. From this analysis, a value framework emerges that informs the development of an operational toolkit, conceived as a flexible and modular instrument. The toolkit introduces three approaches – deductive, inductive, and speculative – which enable Material Libraries to be transformed into active environments oriented towards experimentation, participation, and the construction of sustainable futures. In this perspective, material is acknowledged not only as a technical resource but also as a cultural and communicative mediator, capable of generating relationships, experiences, and transformations within contemporary society.

Abstract
In this perspective, material is acknowledged not only as a technical resource but also as a cultural and communicative mediator, capable of generating relationships, experiences, and transformations within contemporary society.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
