Abstract
In recent decades, the role of cultural spaces has shifted. Museums and theaters, while still central, often prove inadequate for the dynamic and hybrid forms of contemporary artistic production. Artists now seek places that not only display finished works but also sustain processes of creation, collaboration, and appropriation. Meanwhile, many cities face the challenge of reactivating abandoned buildings and marginal sites, where ruins and residual structures can become opportunities for new cultural practices. On the coast of Lima, the ruins of La Máquina del Sabor, a former nightclub once dedicated to nightlife, stand as silent witnesses of abandonment and informal appropriation. Over time, graffiti, urban art, and spontaneous activities have transformed the structure into an unofficial cultural landmark, kept alive despite the absence of any institutional framework. The site embodies both memory and potential: a fragment suspended between ruin and renewal. “(re)vibe” emerges at this intersection, reimagining La Máquina del Sabor as a hybrid infrastructure for artistic creation. The name evokes revitalization and vibration: a new cultural pulse rising from a site once devoted to entertainment, now reinterpreted as a space for experimentation and exchange. The project does not erase the ruin but embraces it as a palimpsest, layering new architectural gestures vibrant in form and materiality. It proposes an architecture of the in-between: neither museum nor theater, but a threshold space of flexibility, collaboration, and experimentation. The program combines an artist-in-residence with flexible areas for performance and exhibition, enabling both creation and presentation, permanence and ephemerality. Beyond architecture, “(re)vibe”aspires to be a place where artists can breathe, create, and belong. An infrastructure that reactivates a neglected coastal site while rethinking how spaces for contemporary art can sustain process as much as outcome, contributing to broader debates on cultural infrastructure, adaptive reuse, and the role of architecture in mediating between memory and transformation.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
