Landscape of coexistence - the Imon Salt Mine between tourism and heritage regeneration

The project aims to reimagine the Imón salt mines by creating a landscape where memory, present, and future coexist. Through the adaptive reuse of ruins and historic structures, the reorganization of function and flows, and interventions that accelerate natural ecological processes, the design seeks to transform the abandoned saltworks into a fantastical, time-crossing experience. Visitors are invited to engage with the traces of salt heritage, to inhabit newly programmed spaces that support cultural and touristic activities, and to witness the gradual return of wetlands and pastures. It is not a museum of ruins, but a dynamic environment where visitors can experience salt heritage, local crafts, and biodiversity.

Il progetto mira a reimmaginare le saline di Imón creando un paesaggio in cui memoria, presente e futuro coesistono. Attraverso il riutilizzo adattivo di rovine e strutture storiche, la riorganizzazione di funzioni e flussi e interventi che accelerano i processi ecologici naturali, il progetto mira a trasformare le saline abbandonate in un'esperienza fantastica che attraversa il tempo. I visitatori sono invitati a interagire con le tracce del patrimonio del sale, ad abitare spazi di nuova progettazione che supportano attività culturali e turistiche e ad assistere al graduale ritorno di zone umide e pascoli. Non si tratta di un museo di rovine, ma di un ambiente dinamico in cui i visitatori possono sperimentare il patrimonio del sale, l'artigianato locale e la biodiversità.
