This master's thesis deals with the conversion of church buildings and shows how sacred buildings can be repurposed in a contemporary way without losing their cultural and architectural value. Existing projects are documented, analyzed, and compared with each other through a value-neutral cataloging of converted churches. This provides a broad overview of how such conversions have been implemented to date. The other part of the thesis focuses on a church in Treuenbrietzen, a town in the Berlin area. Based on an analysis of the location and the social and cultural needs of the community, a new utilization concept is developed. The concept introduces a new cultural use to strengthen the location while preserving its identity. Based on historical documents and a detailed examination of the structural changes that have already taken place, the spatial potential of the church is assessed. The aim of the proposed concept is to give the existing space a new identity and make it more usable. The interplay of old and new creates spaces that highlight the former space, but also sequences of spaces in which it disappears into the background.

Abstract
The interplay of old and new creates spaces that highlight the former space, but also sequences of spaces in which it disappears into the background.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
