This thesis focuses on the recovery and adaptive reuse of “Masseria Recupa Scardinale,” a rural farmhouse located in Apulia, with the aim of transforming it into a permanent training center. Masserie are emblematic elements of the Apulian agricultural landscape and represent a cultural and architectural heritage of extraordinary value, often compromised by abandonment or by interventions that are inconsistent with their historical identity. This work proposes a design approach that combines the conservation of the material and spatial authenticity of the buildings with the introduction of new functions linked to education, culture, and social life. Through a multidisciplinary analysis that includes a historical and typological study of the masseria, an examination of the landscape and territorial context, and a reflection on the themes of regeneration and sustainability, the thesis develops a project proposal capable of renewing the role of the masseria in contemporary times. The new permanent training center is conceived as a place of intergenerational and interdisciplinary exchange, open to educational initiatives, laboratories, workshops, professional courses, and activities aimed at enhancing both traditional and innovative knowledge. The design strategy seeks to create a harmonious dialogue between the old and the new: the original spaces are reinterpreted according to updated functional and performance criteria, without undermining their structure and atmosphere. The use of local materials and reversible construction solutions helps define a sustainable intervention, respectful of the site and replicable in similar contexts. Particular attention is also paid to the relationship between architecture and landscape, with the aim of strengthening the interaction between the built environment and the surrounding agricultural and cultural setting. The project aims to demonstrate how the adaptive reuse of rural heritage can become a strategic resource for the development of inland areas, counteracting phenomena of marginalization and depopulation, while offering new opportunities in the educational, occupational, and cultural fields. In this sense, architecture is conceived as an active tool of social transformation and regeneration of the sense of community, fostering a participatory and inclusive approach to design.
