This thesis is an attempt to investigate the role of the ‘system’ in Italian design between the late 1950s and the 1970s, a period marked by profound social, cultural and economic transformations, also taking into consideration subsequent periods, in particular the 1980s and 1990s, with regard to the corporate experience of Driade. The term “system” is understood here in several ways: as an interdisciplinary design approach, as an educational tool, and as a production and business model. Through comparison with international experiences, such as the Case Study Houses, the Eames, the Ulm School, Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, and the analysis of the Italian context with the Politecnico di Milano, the University of Florence, designers and companies including Driade, the research shows how Italian design has distinguished itself by transforming modularity into a cultural and narrative device capable of integrating creativity, social responsibility and experimentation. In Italy, the system thus becomes a vehicle for symbolic values, educational and cultural methods: insights into theoretical and design contributions, and the figures who have taken a critical stance on the system, highlight Italian systemic design as an ideal model for study. The new Italian perspective, aimed at redefining the thinking and design methodology of the system, both in the field of design and architecture, testifies to the sensitivity of those who have been able to depart from traditional imagery in an attempt to influence the future.

Abstract
The new Italian perspective, aimed at redefining the thinking and design methodology of the system, both in the field of design and architecture, testifies to the sensitivity of those who have been able to depart from traditional imagery in an attempt to influence the future.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
