The archive is the physical place dedicated to preserving and transmitting memory: an ordered collection of materials to be understood not as a mere repository, but as material that actively contributes to the cultural and political development of a society. In Italian cities, the importance of these cultural institutions is often undermined by the fragility of their conditions: archives, libraries, and museums are frequently underfunded, housed in inadequate facilities, and constrained by a chronic shortage of staff. Such circumstances compromise not only their protective function, but also their capacity to effectively transmit heritage to the wider community. This research engages with the notion of the archive and its multiple declinations; it examines its civic and urban role, emphasizing its regenerative potential in marginalized contexts, as well as the application of innovative technologies to enhance its functions. The proposal concerns the redevelopment of a logistics area located behind the Real Albergo dei Poveri in Naples, currently occupied by a State Police vehicles depot. With a particular focus on the preservation and valorization of the archaeological heritage of the metropolitan area, the project envisages: on the one hand, an urban strategy that seeks to reconnect different parts of the city; and on the other, the conversion of the depot into an Archive-Repository of artifacts for the Archaeological Superintendency, thereby redefining its role within the urban fabric and returning to the neighborhood a space otherwise inaccessible.

Abstract
With a particular focus on the preservation and valorization of the archaeological heritage of the metropolitan area, the project envisages: on the one hand, an urban strategy that seeks to reconnect different parts of the city; and on the other, the conversion of the depot into an Archive-Repository of artifacts for the Archaeological Superintendency, thereby redefining its role within the urban fabric and returning to the neighborhood a space otherwise inaccessible.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
