This thesis project aims to propose a durable model for affordable social housing program carried out by the municipality of Milan. As one of the listed sites, Porto di Mare is not only the biggest one but also has a strong character which is given from its location between urban and rural landscape, as well as the existing facilities which are built spontaneously due to the lack of urban planning. Hence, this is not just a project for social housing itself anymore, but also about the reinterpretation of the relationship between urban architecture and rural-natural landscape, between the existing built environment and the need of new communities. In order to propose a pragmatic project, the brief given from the municipality of Milan is carefully studied and criticized, for example the site boundary, the demanding construction area, the buildings which are under protection etc. Based on the brief, on-site study and remote architectural research, ‘Together’, as the main concept and the method of the project, plays a crucial role from urban design to architectural design, with this approach, a multi-layer relationship between urban and rural, public and collective are introduced as well as the adaptive reuse of the existing facilities.
Questo progetto di tesi mira a proporre un modello duraturo per il programma di edilizia sociale a prezzi accessibili attuato dal Comune di Milano. Essendo uno dei siti censiti, Porto di Mare non è solo il più grande, ma possiede anche un carattere forte, dato dalla sua posizione tra paesaggio urbano e rurale, nonché dalle strutture esistenti, costruite spontaneamente a causa della mancanza di pianificazione urbanistica. Pertanto, non si tratta più solo di un progetto di edilizia sociale in sé, ma anche di una reinterpretazione del rapporto tra architettura urbana e paesaggio rurale-naturale, tra l'ambiente costruito esistente e le esigenze delle nuove comunità. Per proporre un progetto pragmatico, il brief fornito dal Comune di Milano viene attentamente studiato e analizzato, ad esempio i confini del sito, le complesse aree di costruzione, gli edifici sottoposti a tutela, ecc. Sulla base del brief, dello studio in loco e della ricerca architettonica a distanza, "Together", come concetto principale e metodo del progetto, gioca un ruolo cruciale dalla progettazione urbana a quella architettonica. Con questo approccio, vengono introdotte una relazione multistrato tra urbano e rurale, pubblico e collettivo, nonché il riutilizzo adattivo delle strutture esistenti.
