Located in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, the project is situated within Ovcha Kupel, a growing western district known for its emerging educational institutions and recent infrastructural upgrades. Despite the arrival of the Mizia metro station and plans for a future public park, the area still suffers from urban disconnection, underutilized public spaces, and a lack of cohesive identity. This project proposes the creation of a transformative public library – envisioned as a special connector, a multifunctional and dynamic cultural space that moves beyond traditional library functions. It is designed to act as a social condenser, a community connector, and a catalyst for intellectual growth and urban interaction. The design not only fulfills functional needs, but also creates a new and active public space for the district. The proposal is guided by a multi-layered urban strategy, integrating both historic grid logic and organic landscape patterns from the area’s rural past. Through careful alignment with pedestrian flows, open spaces, and adjacent educational, residential, and recreational nodes, the library becomes a key element in a spatial system that stitches fragmented areas together. As part of this urban vision, a new piazza is introduced — strategically positioned between the site and the future park development. It reinforces the library’s role not just as an institutional building, but as an urban mediator that generates spatial continuity and a renewed identity for Ovcha Kupel.

Abstract
It reinforces the library’s role not just as an institutional building, but as an urban mediator that generates spatial continuity and a renewed identity for Ovcha Kupel.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
