The object of this analysis is the Sanctuary of the Sisters of Maria Bambina in Lovere, built on clay soil on a chalky mass in movement started in 1928 and completed in 1938. Since the 50's the building had suffered serious foundational failures which have affected the stability of the Sanctuary. With the latest structural works more than 100 micropiles were formed and several oleodynamic jacks were installed with the aim of restoring the original levels. A huge mass of sub-foundation linked to the Sanctuary, recently discovered only after a suvery, made it difficult to use the jack to lift part of the Sanctuary. In the face of this discovery and during the current phase of the excavation trenches an analysis was carried out in order to estimate the actual weight more accurately The objective of this estimate was to determine the axial load of the micropile foundation to enabe the Geotechnical engineer in charge to dimension the jacks. As a consequence a 3D finite element model of the Sanctuary, was implemented with mainly brick elements due to the difficulty of modeling complex geometries through simple schemes. Such processing provided the technical office in charge of the structural works with a valuable tool for various types of analysis needed in the future development of the project. After calibration of the model that have determined the correct implementation, determine the value of stresses were determined in the most stressed elements by elastic analysis so that the most stressed wall elements could be assessed. Considerations were made in the use of nonlinear static analysis with the criterion of resistance by Strumas noting however that for the model created, computers with higher are needed. In the end an assessment of a single micropile of the Sanctuary foundation was carried out, subject to axial load only, dealing with sizing evaluations of the jacks.
