In structural mechanics, the numerical solution of partial differential equations (PDEs) represents a fundamental task, where the Finite Element Method (FEM) constitutes the prevailing industrial standard. Recently, a new paradigm has emerged based on neural operators, which aim to learn the solution operator of PDEs and enable fast evaluations once trained. Among these approaches, the Variational Physics-Informed Neural Operator (VINO) combines operator learning with a variational formulation inspired by classical mechanics, and can be trained without labeled solution data. This thesis investigates the applicability of the VINO framework to structural mechanics problems, with particular focus on Mindlin plate models for composite laminates, which are relevant in aerospace applications. The method is validated through systematic comparisons with FEM reference solutions for static analyses, showing accurate reproduction of displacement fields and energy measures, together with good generalization across variations in material properties and loading conditions. The extension of the framework to eigenvalue problems for free vibration analysis is also explored in order to assess its potential and limitations with respect to classical numerical approaches.

Abstract
The extension of the framework to eigenvalue problems for free vibration analysis is also explored in order to assess its potential and limitations with respect to classical numerical approaches.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
