Recent years have witnessed profound transformations in global supply chains driven by rapid technological development, increased interconnectivity among firms, and growing system complexity. Digital technologies have emerged as key factors in enabling coordination, data exchange, and collaboration across organizational boundaries. However, major disruptions, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, and cyberattacks, have exposed the vulnerability of highly interconnected digital systems and underscored the importance of resilience in platform-based supply chains. This thesis investigates how digital supply chain platforms contribute to supply chain resilience from a resilience capabilities perspective. The study pursues two main objectives: first, to identify the key resilience enablers provided by digital platforms; and second, to examine the practices these platforms adopt to ensure their own resilience. A mixed qualitative methodology is employed, combining a systematic literature review with a multiple document analysis, complemented by interviews with platform users and platform developers.
Negli ultimi anni le catene di approvvigionamento globali hanno subito profonde trasformazioni, guidate dal rapido sviluppo tecnologico, dall’aumento dell’interconnessione tra le imprese e dalla crescente complessità dei sistemi. Le tecnologie digitali in ambito della supply chain sono emerse come fattori chiave per abilitare il coordinamento, lo scambio di dati e la collaborazione oltre i confini organizzativi. Tuttavia, grandi disruption come la pandemia da COVID-19, i conflitti geopolitici e i cyberattacchi hanno messo in luce la vulnerabilità dei sistemi digitali fortemente interconnessi, evidenziando l’importanza della resilienza nelle supply chain. La presente tesi analizza in che modo le piattaforme digitali contribuiscano alla resilienza della supply chain dal punto di vista delle capacità di resilienza. Lo studio persegue due principali obiettivi: in primo luogo, individuare i fattori che influenzano la resilienza delle piattaforme digitali; in secondo luogo, esaminare le pratiche adottate da tali piattaforme per garantirne la propria resilienza. Viene adottata una metodologia qualitativa che combina una revisione sistematica della letteratura con un’analisi di casi di studio, integrata con interviste a utilizzatori e sviluppatori di piattaforme digitali.
