How is it possible to design something that is conceived with the intention of disappearing? In a context marked by increasing artificialization and the loss of ecological balance in contemporary cities, the project is interpreted not as a definitive gesture, but as an agent capable of triggering ecological processes, operating in continuity with natural cycles rather than opposing to them. Through a process that interlaces theoretical research, territorial investigation and material experimentation, the thesis explores the potential of biodegradable and temporally open systems, conceived to progressively transform and return to the soil. Biodegradation is not understood as an end, but as a generative principle: a design act that allows space to dissolve, reintegrate and continue to exist in new forms.
Come è possibile progettare qualcosa che nasce già con l’intenzione di scomparire? In un contesto segnato da crescente artificializzazione e perdita di equilibrio nelle nostre città contemporanee, il progetto viene interpretato non come gesto definitivo, ma come capace di innescare processi ecologici, operando in continuità con i cicli naturali piuttosto che opporsi ad essi. Attraverso un percorso che intreccia ricerca teorica, indagine territoriale e sperimentazione materica, la tesi indaga il potenziale di sistemi biodegradabili e temporalmente aperti, concepiti per trasformarsi progressivamente e restituirsi al suolo. La biodegradazione non è intesa come fine, ma come principio generativo: un atto progettuale che permette allo spazio di dissolversi, reintegrarsi e continuare a esistere sotto nuove forme.
