Lacus Amoenus : a water reservoir in Cremona

A cistern is proposed in the agricultural landscape of Cremona, as a way to contrast the ever-increasing scarcity of water during summertime months. The water is stored when the Po River swells, and it is reused as an alternative water source during the hot season. As the climatic and hydrological crisis demand that more and more systems for storage water be built, the project looks into the possibility of integrating alternative uses within the reservoir, giving a public and civic role to an otherwise simply infrastructural element. The topic of landscape is explored through design, and it is further examined theoretically to better understand the architectural choices.

Si propone la costruzione di una cisterna a fine agricolo nei pressi di Cremona che possa contrastare la crescente scarsità idrica nei mesi estivi, sfruttando i periodi di piena del fiume Po per immagazzinare la quantità d’acqua necessaria alle colture limitrofe. Siccome la crisi climatica e idrologica richiederà una sempre maggiore presenza di sistemi per lo stoccaggio dell’acqua, si indaga la possibilità di integrare alla struttura una serie di usi alternativi capaci di portare l’edificio da puro elemento infrastrutturale, a parte integrante della vita cittadina. Il tema del paesaggio viene esplorato progettualmente in più momenti, e viene approfondito dal punto di vista teorico al fine di meglio intendere le scelte architettoniche.
