The thesis offers a critical analysis of the work of Renzo Piano and of the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), examined through the lens of the planimetric composition of their projects. The method employed is based on the systematic redrawing of numerous floor plans and on the identification of recurring formal characteristics within them. This investigation is situated within a theoretical framework that draws upon the tradition of formal analysis in architectural criticism, ultimately leading to the delineation of analytical and operative tools relevant both to the interpretation and to the design of architecture. The thesis further includes an account of the academic and professional experiences undertaken by the candidate in the course “Laboratorio dell’Arte del Costruire,” taught by Renzo Piano at the Politecnico di Milano, as well as during an internship at the Renzo Piano Building Workshop.

Abstract
The thesis offers a critical analysis of the work of Renzo Piano and of the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), examined through the lens of the planimetric composition of their projects. The method employed is based on the systematic redrawing of numerous floor plans and on the identification of recurring formal characteristics within them. This investigation is situated within a theoretical framework that draws upon the tradition of formal analysis in architectural criticism, ultimately leading to the delineation of analytical and operative tools relevant both to the interpretation and to the design of architecture. The thesis further includes an account of the academic and professional experiences undertaken by the candidate in the course “Laboratorio dell’Arte del Costruire,” taught by Renzo Piano at the Politecnico di Milano, as well as during an internship at the Renzo Piano Building Workshop.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
