The thesis project investigates the current condition of the northern area of the Acropolis of Athens, defined as the strip of land between the Propylaea to the west and the Erechtheion to the east. Archaeologically, the area preserves fragmentary remains from different historical periods, distributed along the line of the fortification walls and characterized by varying levels of legibility and conservation. The project aims to enhance these structures by incorporating them into a coherent system capable of offering a unified interpretation, while respecting the specific qualities of each element. Due to their distinct characteristics, the study is organized into four areas: the Justinian cistern, the foundations of the north-west building, the terracing system, and the Persian fill. Alongside the central theme of valorizing the remains, the project addresses the issue of the archaeological worksite—particularly relevant to the first three areas—while the fourth focuses on the integration of the elevator. The northern sector currently hosts the worksite dedicated to the conservation of the Propylaea. However, existing temporary structures have been built over ancient remains, completely concealing them. Making these remains visible requires identifying alternative solutions for accommodating the functions necessary for the worksite. The proposal therefore redistributes these functions across the different areas: the cistern becomes a platform supporting the maintenance of the Propylaea and its scaffolding; the foundations of the north-west building act as a link to the terracing, which hosts the new workspace for archaeologists. Continuing along the path parallel to these areas, the route reaches the Persian fill and the elevator, where the walkway ends. Here, the project addresses the need for a connection that integrates the elevator while establishing a meaningful dialogue with the surrounding historical context. Each area has been studied from the perspectives of conservation, architectural composition, technological and structural strategies, and building services, in order to develop a project consistent with the unique character of the heritage site.

Abstract
Each area has been studied from the perspectives of conservation, architectural composition, technological and structural strategies, and building services, in order to develop a project consistent with the unique character of the heritage site.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
