Over the past seventy years, polymer-based products have revolutionized everyday life, enhancing many aspects of it. However, these advancements have not been matched by progress in waste management, and the most polluting and inefficient disposal methods are still widely used. Among the most effective technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with plastic materials are pyrolysis and gasification. These processes enable the recovery of monomers, light hydrocarbons, or syngas, which can be used as feedstock in the chemical industry, thus contributing to the development of a circular economy. This thesis aims to develop a semi-detailed kinetic model for the thermochemical recycling of PA (polyamide). The model is based on a functional-group approach, where the kinetic behavior of large molecules is assumed to depend mainly on their nearest chemical moiety, thereby reducing the computational cost of the simulation. Lighter chemical species are treated with a more detailed modeling approach. The mechanism accounts for condensed-phase and is suitable for CFD simulations. The developed model accurately predicts mass loss profiles and species formation under both static and dynamic conditions at moderate to high temperatures. Additionally, it can assess the influence of weak bonds and average molar mass on the thermal stability of the material.

Abstract
Additionally, it can assess the influence of weak bonds and average molar mass on the thermal stability of the material.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
