Moving through space necessarily involves travelling through time. Each step generates a variation in sensory perceptions that cannot be experienced simultaneously, but only in succession. The experience of the individual in motion is therefore structured according to a linear development that organises events in sequence, implicitly arranging them in a narrative form. On this basis, the thesis aims to investigate the existence of a narrative thread that intertwines architecture and cinema. Through this comparison, it proposes a critical reading of the experience in space, taking cinema as an interpretative tool capable of highlighting how the individual’s experience, in flowing through constructed space, is not a static reality, but a dynamic process capable of constructing meaning through the succession of events. From this perspective, the thesis presupposes a correspondence between: the spectator and the visitor, the film and the architectural space, the director and the architect. Based on two calls for proposals issued by the Fossoli Foundation in 1988 and 2020, the thesis then develops a proposal for a new museum centre at the Fossoli Camp in Carpi: a place deeply marked by historical trauma, now partly forgotten, which during the Second World War operated as a prison and transit camp. Starting from the relationships identified in the comparison outlined above, the intervention is conceived as a design experiment aimed at exploring the possibility of a new form of narration of the place. Rather than simply satisfying the requirements of the programme, the spatial configuration is conceived as a narrative tool, capable of articulating paths, sequences and thresholds that orient perception and suggest meanings. The project, conceived as an experimental device, aims to test the possibility of stimulating in the visitor a critical reflection on the historical and social role of the site, through a contemporary interface designed to guide the experience of visiting the Camp.
Muoversi nello spazio implica necessariamente attraversare il tempo. Ogni passo genera una variazione di percezioni sensoriali che non possono essere vissute simultaneamente, ma solo in successione. L’esperienza dell’individuo in movimento si struttura dunque secondo uno sviluppo lineare che organizza gli eventi in sequenza, disponendoli, implicitamente, in una forma narrativa. Su queste premesse, la tesi intende indagare l’esistenza di un filo narrativo che intreccia architettura e cinema. Attraverso questo confronto si propone una lettura critica dell’esperienza nello spazio assumendo il cinema come strumento interpretativo capace di evidenziare come il vissuto dell’individuo, nel fluire attraverso lo spazio costruito, non si configuri come una realtà statica, ma come un processo dinamico capace di costruire significato attraverso la successione di eventi. In tale ottica la tesi presuppone una corrispondenza tra: lo spettatore e il visitatore, il film e lo spazio architettonico, il regista e l’architetto. Sulla base di due bandi promossi dalla Fondazione Fossoli nel 1988 e nel 2020, la tesi, in seguito, sviluppa la proposta di un nuovo centro museale presso il Campo di Fossoli a Carpi: un luogo profondamente segnato dal trauma storico, oggi in parte dimenticato, che durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale operava come campo di prigionia e transito. A partire dalle relazioni individuate nel confronto precedentemente esposto, l’intervento viene concepito come un esperimento progettuale finalizzato a esplorare la possibilità di una nuova forma di narrazione del luogo. Piuttosto che limitarsi a soddisfare le esigenze del programma, la configurazione spaziale viene pensata come strumento narrativo, in grado di articolare percorsi, sequenze e soglie che orientano la percezione e suggeriscono significati. Il progetto, concepito come dispositivo sperimentale, intende verificare la possibilità di stimolare nel visitatore una riflessione critica sul ruolo storico e sociale del campo, attraverso un’interfaccia contemporanea in grado di guidare l’esperienza di visita al campo.
